Challenge
An era of change
The global shipping industry accounts for around 3% of global emissions that contribute to climate change. It is fundamental that we decarbonize and meet reduction targets set by the Paris Agreement. Decarbonizing the shipping industry is an integral part of the wider global energy transition. There are 6 major challenges for the global shipping industry.
Rising Carbon Emissions
The shipping industry remains one of the largest contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions, exacerbating climate change.
Regulatory Pressure
Increasingly stringent environmental regulations are forcing shipping companies to seek cleaner fuel alternatives to meet compliance standards.
Limited Fuel Availability
The global availability of sustainable marine fuels like green methanol is limited, creating supply chain challenges for vessel operators.
High Green Fuel Costs
High costs associated with low-carbon fuel alternatives discourage adoption by shipping companies, affecting their profitability.
Underdeveloped Model
The current infrastructure for storing, distributing, and bunkering sustainable fuels like methanol is underdeveloped, slowing the transition.
Fragmented Collaboration
There is a lack of coordinated effort among fuel suppliers, shipping companies and governments in efficiently scaling up the use of green marine fuels.
Purpose
We are building a three-pillar ecosystem that will support lasting change and help the shipping industry navigate towards a sustainable future for people and planet.
The GreenMarine ecosystem
Vision
Making waves of change by navigating sustainable maritime transition
We explore and look beyond the horizon within areas that are connected and interdependent, as we aim to transform the shipping industry’s impact on the planet. We do this by applying our expertise in designing, building and operating methanol powered vessels owned by responsible and sustainability focused shipowners and companies. From early movers to late adopters, we are here to create waves of impact through inspiring business cases of change.
Pillars
Engineering
Engineering is our division advising shipowners and other maritime players throughout the process of retrofitting and new building projects, based on extensive unmatched hands-on experience. We are globally recognized for our expertise in methanol dual-fuel vessel design and construction supervision with a team of experienced Masters and Chief Engineers. We perform on-site, overseeing building processes, sea trials and delivery.
Pillars
Education
Education is our division offering a specialized methanol training program for seafarers and technical teams, ensuring they acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for safe, efficient methanol-powered vessel operations. We are collaborating worldwide with key institutions, and as pioneers in methanol dual-fuel technology, we played a crucial role in assisting regulatory bodies with the development of Tentative Rules for Low Flashpoint Fuel Ship Installations. Led by ex-Captains and Chief Engineers, our training offers practical insights into methanol dual-fuel systems, addressing ship design, safety, bunkering and operational protocols.
Pillars
Fuels
Fuels is our division focused on the sourcing, storing, supplying, shipping and bunkering of green fuels like methanol, connecting producers and consumers around the globe. We are dedicated to enhancing supply security for renewable methanol in the marine industry through origination, off-take intermediation, storage, trading and distribution. By leveraging strategic partnerships, we ensure a consistent and reliable supply of methanol as marine fuel. We are initially focusing on Shanghai Lingang, Tianjin, and Singapore, with a vision for 1 million tons globally per annum, starting in Q1 2026. This methanol will be integrated into our supply chain infrastructure. We secure long-term off-take agreements to be able to service customers worldwide.
