- 23/01/2025
PrimeServ Academy Shanghai and Green Marine have announced a strategic collaboration in the field of Methanol Training, aimed at supporting the maritime industry’s transition to methanol as a marine fuel. The official initiation of this partnership was marked by a signing ceremony held on January 9th, 2025.
Key representatives from both organizations were present at the ceremony, including Martin Lyager Hansen, Head of PrimeServ Marine & Power, Cathy Yang, Head of PrimeServ Academy Shanghai, Donnie Bagang, Managing Director, and Julian Lopez, Director of the Technical Division in Asia at Green Marine Engineering Pte. Ltd. They all participated in the signing of the agreement, symbolizing the commitment and dedication to this collaboration.
The collaboration aims to provide comprehensive training solutions to address the knowledge gaps between theoretical regulation and practical experience in the use of methanol as a marine fuel. Green Marine, a Denmark-headquartered company, has developed a specialized training program for crews on methanol dual-fuel vessels, leveraging over a decade of experience in methanol dual-fuel vessel operations, from design consultancy to newbuilding construction supervision, and ME-LGIM Engine operations.
Martin Lyager Hansen of MAN Energy Solutions, said: “I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the successful signing of this strategic collaboration agreement between PrimeServ Academy Shanghai and Green Marine. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in our shared commitment to sustainable maritime practices and innovative energy solutions. The establishment of this training program is a testament to our mutual vision of promoting methanol as a viable and environmentally friendly fuel option. We are excited about the positive impact it will have on the industry and look forward to working closely with Green Marine to ensure the success of this training agreement.”
Mr. Donnie Bagang of Green Marine Engineering Pte. Ltd., added: “Green Marine’s team, consisting of captains and chief engineers with firsthand knowledge of working with methanol as a fuel, is well-equipped to provide practical insights and support crews in adopting methanol dual-fuel technology safely. This collaboration with PrimeServ Academy Shanghai is expected to further enhance the industry’s capabilities in handling and operating methanol-fueled vessels, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for shipping.”
The curriculum can be delivered in MAN-ES Academy Shanghai classroom, addressing the knowledge gaps between theoretical safety regulation and practical experience in the use of methanol as a marine fuel. This collaboration program supplements baseline regulatory safety training with practical, experience-based learning, providing participants with a basic and/or advanced – Safety, handling & bunker training in addition with our PrimeServ ME-LGIM engine course.
With the signing of the agreement, PrimeServ Academy Shanghai and Green Marine are poised to contribute to the maritime industry’s transition to more sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions. The partnership underscores the companies’ shared commitment to promoting green technologies and achieving remarkable progress in our sustainability goals.
